The orange tree, originally from Southeast Asia, later spread to India and Persia before expanding throughout the Mediterranean basin, where it was first cultivated during the 10th century. It was subsequently grown in California and South America. Sweet orange oil is obtained by extracting the zest of the fruit. The fruit of the orange tree was an integral part of ancient Chinese medicine, particularly for stimulating digestion and soothing spasms. In 18th-century Europe, the fruit of the orange tree was used to treat nervous and cardiac disorders, as well as colic and asthma.

The psycho-emotional approach :

The sweet orange essential oil helps you fall asleep and detach from everyday cares.
It creates a relaxed atmosphere for those suffering from anxiety and nervousness. It also has a calming, sedative effect on anxiety-related digestive disorders.

Sweet orange breaks negative thought cycles. Applying some to your wrists creates a soothing effect.

Rose Geranium, also known as Pelargonium, belongs to the botanical family Geraniaceae. Its name comes from the Greek word "pelargos," which means "stork," as the shape of its fruits resembles the beak of this bird. There are numerous varieties of Rose Geranium found in Reunion Island, Madagascar, China, Algeria, Morocco, and even Egypt, where this plant was cultivated in the Fayoum region. The term "Rose Geranium" actually encompasses a variety of complex hybrids, and their characteristics may slightly vary depending on the place of cultivation. The essential oil of Rose Geranium is widely used in perfumery, as its fragrance is reminiscent of that of roses.

The psycho-emotional approach :

Rose geranium essential oil regulates the nervous system. When inhaled, it has a calming effect and creates a soothing sensation. It soothes those with heartache by nourishing and calming any part of the psyche that feels abandoned, stimulating the sense of security.

Contrary to damask rose essential oil which has more of an "activating" effect, rose geranium essential oil will "calm", "soothe" and "heal".

Frankincense, also known as olibanum, is derived from a tree called Boswellia, which grows in the eastern desert regions. By incising the tree's bark, an aromatic gum resin is obtained, sometimes referred to as "tears of Somalia." Considered a sacred tree, Boswellia was revered by ancient civilizations.

The incense trees were as precious and sought after as gold, sparking numerous expeditions and even causing wars. The queen of Sheba in Somalia sought the help of King Solomon to protect her incense crops. Fifteen centuries BCE, Queen Hatshepsut had the images of thirty-one incense trees engraved on the rocks of Deir el-Bahari, brought from the land of God by her expeditions.

Phoenicians, Egyptians, and Hebrews conducted significant trade in frankincense. They all left written testimonies about the ritual practices and medicinal uses of incense, particularly for the healing of deep wounds.
Regardless of culture or religion, incense is perceived as the ultimate means of communication between humans and celestial powers. Its incomparable fragrance makes it an interesting essential oil to inhale during meditation.

The psycho-emotional approach :

By promoting deep, peaceful breathing, frankincense calms our minds and helps us gain perspective, reducing our daily anxieties to more appropriate proportions.

It releases us from agitation and mental white noise and soothes feelings of stress and irritability. It helps you totally let go.

The black pepper, originating from the foothills of the Himalayas, is believed to date back over 3000 years BC.
Known as the "grains of paradise" by the Venetians, it was extremely rare and highly sought after until the 17th century.
It was a highly valuable spice, heavily taxed and regulated. It was even used as a prized currency, much like salt.
Black pepper is a vine that attaches itself to supports. It is harvested while still green and then dried. After a certain period of time, it turns black. It must be crushed before being distilled.
Black pepper is a taste enhancer. It enlivens flavors and enhances the properties of other essential oils. It is widely used in Ayurveda.

The psycho-emotional approach :

Paired with Oliban frankincense, you can amplify its effects on the mind.

Black pepper reduces sensations of being trapped created by worry, missing somebody or something, anxiety and despair arising from life experiences that make us feel powerless.

Originating from Indonesia and the Philippines, Ylang-Ylang is known as "the flower of flowers" or "alang-ilang," the flower that dances in the breeze. For the Malay population, it is like "a star from the sky placed by Mother Moon"... It is said that in India, the seven sages known as Rishis brought back the seed of Ylang-Ylang from their journey through the universe to share with humans. That is why in Hindu monasteries, this flower is present everywhere to attract the aid and mercy of cosmic gods towards the faithful. Its scent is sensual, warm, captivating, sweet, and slightly musky. Its reputation as an aphrodisiac oil comes from Indonesia, where Ylang-Ylang petals are still scattered on the bed of newlyweds today.

The psycho-emotional approach :
Ylang Ylang essential oil acts on the cardiac plexus, calms the heart and eases pain and sadness. It reduces any stress affecting the heart and lungs, or accompanied by sighing. This fragrance calms anger and other negative emotional states, transforming this synergy into more positive manifestations. It thus helps combat sadness and moroseness and brings a feeling of peace. It imparts a feeling of security and inner calm.
You will consistently find Ylang-Ylang essential oil included in at least one product in each range at La Bastide d’Isalinore, simply because it helps to calm, soothe, and find serenity.

Benzoin Siam, a cloud of sweetness around the inner child...

Originating from Southeast Asia, the Benzoin Siam comes from a tree called Styrax. This warm and humid homeland allows this tropical tree to grow and produce small fruits with hard shells. The resin of Benzoin is brownish and its fragrance is balsamic, vanilla-like, smooth, sweet, warm, with a hint of milky notes that, like a candy, seems to beckon the sweet fragrances of childhood.

The psycho-emotional approach :

With its reassuring and deeply consoling characteristics, benzoin is a scent that sustains, appeases and wraps us in a fluffy cloud of sweetness and tenderness.

The scent of benzoin is like a balm for your heart, soothing nervous tension, stress, fatigue and sadness. It has proven to be helpful in combatting latent depression or chronic anxiety.

It is also ideal for people who feel the need to take refuge behind a protective, comforting shield. It makes it easier to accept life's transitions.

The Tonka bean is native to South America and the Caribbean. It is the fruit of a hardwood tree from the Fabaceae family, known as Dipteryx odorata.
This tree is also referred to as coumarou, coumaron, coumarine, or Brazilian teak.
The Tonka bean was historically used by the Tupi Indians, an indigenous group from the Brazilian coast, to flavor tobacco. The names Tonka and Kumaru (coumarine) come from the Tupi language/dialect.
Due to the presence of coumarin in Tonka beans, its usage is heavily regulated, and it appears in fragrance compositions in very limited amounts.

From a psycho-emotional perspective, with its delightful aroma, Tonka bean can enhance the feeling of tranquility generated by other essential oils already present in the perfume composition.

Like frankincense, myrrh belongs to the botanical family Burseraceae. Its Latin name is Commiphora myrrha. It is an aromatic gum resin obtained by incising the bark of a twisted, dry, leaf-scented tree with small white flowers. It grows in the arid deserts of Somalia and along the shores of the Red Sea.

In his Treatise on Odors, the Greek philosopher Theophrastus (372-287 BCE) describes myrrh as being warm, biting, possessing astringent properties, and having a very bitter taste. Considered by the ancients as a divine aromatic tree, Commiphora myrrha has traversed many centuries and civilizations. During the time of the pharaohs, myrrh tears were so coveted that they were exchanged for precious stones by the Egyptians, who imported them from the mythical land of Punt.

Mythology tells the story of Princess Myrrha, the most beautiful on Earth, who rivaled Aphrodite. She was forced to flee to the land of the Queen of Sheba, where she was transformed into a tree and began to weep the famous tears of myrrh.

Along with gold and frankincense, myrrh was one of the gifts offered by the Three Wise Men to the child Jesus. If frankincense symbolized Jesus' divine origin and gold represented his status as a king, myrrh referred to his role as a physician and healer of mankind on Earth.

The psycho-emotional approach :

Myrrh essential oil especially promotes a sense of calmness. It has a sedative effect on a tormented mind.
It calms the nervous system, creates conditions that are conducive to meditation and combats excessive emotion, including discord and hyper emotional states.
It can be used whenever you experience grief, sadness, fear or unexplained anxiety.
Caution: myrrh should not be used by children and pregnant women.
