Originating from Indonesia and the Philippines, Ylang-Ylang is known as "the flower of flowers" or "alang-ilang," the flower that dances in the breeze. For the Malay population, it is like "a star from the sky placed by Mother Moon"... It is said that in India, the seven sages known as Rishis brought back the seed of Ylang-Ylang from their journey through the universe to share with humans. That is why in Hindu monasteries, this flower is present everywhere to attract the aid and mercy of cosmic gods towards the faithful. Its scent is sensual, warm, captivating, sweet, and slightly musky. Its reputation as an aphrodisiac oil comes from Indonesia, where Ylang-Ylang petals are still scattered on the bed of newlyweds today.
