In Greek mythology, we relate that the Rose is born from Aphrodite’s tears, shed when Adonis was dying. To the rose, Aphrodite gifts the beauty, Dionysus grant it the nectar from which it takes it intoxicating perfume and we even say that Zéphyr, incarnation of the wind of the West, hunt the clouds et allowed in this way to Apollon to send his sunray to make it bloom and become the Queen of flowers.
Originating from China where it was known 5000 years ago, the Rose has been appreciated since ancient times. A probable cross between the Provins rose (Rosa Gallica) and the wild dog rose (Rosa canina), the Damascus rose (Rosa Damascena), discovered by the Western world during the Crusades, remains the most sought after as it yields one of the most precious essential oils. It has been cultivated in Bulgaria since the late 17th century, but Turkey and Morocco are also significant producers.
In aromatherapy, the Damascus rose has properties similar to those of rose geranium. On the psycho-emotional level, it speaks to the heart. It promotes expressions of love, dispels anxieties and heartbreaks, jealousy, anger, and more. A marvel of balance, it is like Jasmine, both yin and yang. And it calls out to us, posing this question: "How do you love?"
